Description
Build your expertise in defense-focused sensing and optical engineering while working on mission-critical projects in the greater Lorton, VA area. In this Principal Optical Engineer opportunity, you will help design and integrate next-generation EOIR imaging sensor optics and tactical laser subsystems that directly support long-range mission capabilities.
Qualifications and responsibilities for this Principal Optical Engineer position include:
- 10+ years of imaging and laser optical design experience, including EOIR/imaging sensor optical components, DRI range modeling, and lens/component design in Zemax/CODE V.
- Design and development of multi-band, multi-aperture EOIR imaging sensor, lens, and laser subassemblies.
- Decompose customer requirements into opto-mechanical, imaging sensor, and display specifications; perform DRI range analysis.
- Generate optical designs in Zemax or similar tools and simulate laser parameters.
- Select sensors, displays, stabilization systems, lenses, and lasers; interpret stray light analysis.
- Maintain and use optical lab equipment; characterize EOIR sensor performance and validate delivered optical assemblies.
- Integrate EOIR prototypes, including aligning and boresighting optical components and generating documentation.
- Support prototype-to-production transition by helping transition fabrication or test benches into manufacturing.
Salary: $164,500-$213,500 per year, commensurate with experience.
