In this Director of Preconstruction Utilities opportunity, you’ll lead preconstruction and estimating for plumbing and underground wet utilities projects—helping drive smart bid decisions, protect margins, and position the company for award.
Qualifications and responsibilities for this Director of Preconstruction Utilities position include:
- Directly relevant utilities preconstruction and estimating experience on commercial sites and school additions, including right-of-way work and wastewater/sewer scope on buildings.
- Oversee all company estimates for plumbing and underground utilities projects, including detailed wet-utilities estimating.
- Supervise, mentor, and guide estimators; help junior estimators identify pitfalls and account for costs accurately.
- Provide technical direction for unusual plan conditions and ambiguities; direct RFIs when necessary and review RFI responses for accuracy.
- Establish and enforce consistent estimating standards, labor productivity assumptions, and proposal formatting; review and approve bids prior to submission.
- Develop bid strategy and make sound bid/no-bid decisions; maintain and own the sales pipeline and follow up on bid outcomes.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates and proposals using plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and schedules; request and review supplier/specialty quotes.
- Support project handoff and job startup and assist with change order pricing as needed to protect takeoff accuracy and margin.
Salary: $175,000 - $250,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
