Build your future at a fast-moving manufacturer of precision laboratory instrumentation, where your work directly shapes DNA/RNA synthesizers used by pharmaceutical, biotech, and university labs. In this Mechanical Engineering Lead / Head of Mechanical Engineering opportunity in Sonora, CA, you’ll take full ownership of mechanical engineering—from hands-on design and revision control to supplier coordination and manufacturing support—while leading a flagship high-throughput synthesizer redesign with cost and timeline targets.

Qualifications and responsibilities for this Mechanical Engineering Lead / Head of Mechanical Engineering position include:

  • 5+ years designing precision electromechanical equipment, preferably laboratory instrumentation, automation equipment, medical devices, semiconductor equipment, or aerospace products.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks (or comparable CAD), including detailed manufacturing drawings with GD&T.
  • Direct ownership of engineering revision control, BOMs, part numbering, and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), including releasing designs into manufacturing.
  • Hands-on leadership that includes personally performing mechanical design while owning mechanical engineering processes and documentation.
  • Strong manufacturing and supplier coordination experience, including releasing drawings to machinists/vendors and managing manufacturing quality/first articles.
  • Technical expertise with precision mechanical assemblies, including pneumatics, fluidics, valves, and design for manufacturability/assembly.
  • End-to-end ownership of mechanical products, including documentation, assembly instructions/standard work, troubleshooting field failures, and driving cost-reduction initiatives.

Salary: $120,000–$160,000+ base salary, plus a performance bonus tied to product redesign cost and timeline targets.
