Step into a mission-critical HVAC environment in downtown Austin, where your journeyman-level expertise keeps large federal facilities running smoothly. In this Lead Building HVAC Mechanic opportunity, you’ll lead maintenance and repairs across a combined footprint of approximately 400,000 sq ft while training and supporting a skilled team.
Qualifications and responsibilities for this Lead HVAC Mechanic position include:
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive, hands-on experience (within the past 7 years) in commercial or industrial settings in a large, complex environment.
- Experience leading a team of skilled tradesmen or technicians.
- EPA Universal certification; possess or ability to obtain additional certification such as NATE HVAC Excellence, UA Star HVAC Certification, or union Journeyman License.
- Ability to read, understand, and work from blueprints and schematics; communicate effectively with coworkers and government stakeholders.
- Performs maintenance, diagnostic testing, overhauls, installations, and effective repairs on refrigeration, dehumidification, air-conditioning, ventilation, and heating systems and controls.
- Conducts preventative maintenance including changing filters and cleaning cooling towers and heating/cooling coils.
- Fabricates, assembles, and installs ductwork and chassis parts; cuts, bends, cuts/threads pipe, and joins tubing using proper methods to complete refrigerant circuits.
- Tests for gas leaks, repairs electrical components and controls, and completes assigned building maintenance duties as required.
Salary: $44.47 - $50.47 per hour total compensation, plus $6/hr toward health and Welfare (per CBA).
