Director of Engineering and Capital Projects is a high-impact leadership role within the Department of Public Works, combining office strategy with hands-on field and emergency response as needed.
Qualifications and responsibilities for this Director of Engineering and Capital Projects position include:
- Bachelor’s degree plus 6 years of full-time paid engineering, construction management, architectural design, or public works capital project management experience (including 2 years supervisory) OR an Associate degree plus 8 years of related experience (including 2 years supervisory).
- Plan, assign, supervise, review, and direct design/build projects, capital improvement administration, and engineering construction management activities.
- Develop and manage large segments of the city’s capital improvements program, directly or through staff.
- Oversee capital project expenditures, budgets, and fund recovery, including grant administration and reimbursement submissions.
- Prepare construction contract documents, cost estimates, time schedules, and material specifications.
- Supervise and manage consultant contracts for engineering studies and professional services.
- Administer regulatory functions and oversee design, planning, and construction of public infrastructure (including streets/roads, water, sewer, stormwater, bridges, traffic devices, facilities, retaining walls, and flood control structures).
- Meet with the public and officials, represent the city with developers and agencies, and may act in place of the Superintendent of Public Works as assigned.
Salary: $97,217-$116,660 per year, commensurate with experience.
