Join a leading Michigan utility and energy provider in Ludington, MI as a Senior Principal Controls System Engineer! This is an exciting opportunity to serve as the highest-level technical authority for generation control systems across a diverse fleet, including coal, gas turbines, combined cycle, wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems, while leading major modernization initiatives and shaping long-term automation strategy.
Qualifications and responsibilities for this Senior Principal Controls System Engineer position include:
- 10–12+ years of controls experience with OEM Distributed Control Systems, EDS systems/servers, and plant energy management systems
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer, Engineering, or a relevant technical field required, with work experience considered in lieu of education
- Experience with power plant generation controls, DCS platforms, and OT network architecture
- Configure and maintain multi-OEM DCS platforms including Emerson Ovation, GE Mark VIe, ABB Symphony+, and Mitsubishi Netmation
- Design control network architecture, assign IP addresses, configure data links, and support secure OT communications
- Lead troubleshooting, maintenance, root cause analysis, alarm management, commissioning, and configuration updates
- Ensure alignment with cybersecurity frameworks including NERC CIP and FERC Standards of Conduct
- Mentor controls engineers, lead technical training, support outages, and help drive long-term fleet modernization projects
Salary: $150,000 - $220,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
