Description
Build your future with a respected heavy civil team delivering critical underground utility work across the South, including water, sewer, and storm drainage systems on long-running projects. In this Underground Utility Equipment Operator opportunity, you’ll operate heavy equipment and support production-focused crews while prioritizing safety and quality on every site.
Qualifications and responsibilities for this Underground Utility Equipment Operator position include:
- 1-3 years of experience in underground utilities, construction, excavation, or heavy equipment operation (entry-level applicants with vocational training may be considered).
- Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently (excavator, backhoe, loader, skid steer, dump truck, vacuum truck, trencher).
- Perform manual tasks including trenching, shoring, pipe laying, jointing, backfill, compaction, bedding, and manhole construction.
- Read and interpret construction plans, staking maps, and as-built drawings.
- Locate existing utilities using locators, GPR, or as-built records; mark sites and protect existing infrastructure.
- Set up and maintain traffic control and barricades per local/state regulations while working in the public right-of-way.
- Perform routine equipment inspections, basic maintenance, fueling, and cleaning; report defects and schedule repairs.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, work orders, and basic site documentation while communicating professionally with crew and supervisors.
Salary: $25-$35 per hour (DOE), with overtime opportunities based on project demands.
